What is Oral Conscious Sedation
If visiting the dentist makes you feel anxious or fearful, oral conscious sedation can help you feel calm and relaxed during your procedure. It is as simple as taking a prescribed pill, and unlike general anesthesia, it does not “knock you out.” You will remain awake and aware, but in a deeply relaxed state, and you may have little to no memory of the procedure afterward.
Oral conscious sedation is safe, effective, and convenient. It is less expensive than other forms of sedation, and you will be able to talk and breathe on your own throughout your treatment. It also makes longer or more complex procedures easier to tolerate, often allowing multiple treatments to be completed in a single visit. To ensure comfort, a local anesthetic is also applied to the area being treated so you feel no pain.
